Playground Fail

I love personal stories. They let me reminisce on old times and at times even embarrasses those who are involved in the incident. The story I have today is actually quite recent. Me and my best friend were on a college visit to Appalachian State University, which is located in Boone, NC. It was about half past noon and the leader of our group thought it would be nice to visit the little town of Blowing Rock, NC.

If you’re not familiar with Blowing Rock, it’s a small town located a few miles from the actual University.

It’s a beautiful place and there are stores for days. We traveled to the mountains on an activity bus, so parking for us was a hassle. We decided to park in a nearby parking lot, so that we wouldn’t inconvenience anyone from getting to their destination....well at least I thought the parking lot was nearby. We later found out that we were required to take a shortcut to get back to the little town of Blowing Rock. We arrive at the shortcut and realize that the shortcut isn’t so short. We have to climb a hill, and we see that on its surface lies about thirty-two steps. We had no breath left when we reached the top of the stairs. The only thing that motivated us was the playground that was only inches from where we stood.

We immediately took off to what interested us the most, which were the swings. I hadn't been on a swing in years and neither had my friend. We started slow and thought we were big and bad, so we started to go faster. The wind was blowing fast and it seemed like the swing was on our side. All of a sudden everything changed. We got so high that it became hard to stop. I tried and ended up with my shoes not even being in the perimeter of the playground. I was holding on for dear life and I had never been this scared in my whole life.

The funny part is, that during all this commotion not only was everyone watching, but a storm was right above our heads. I had to think which one was worse? All of a sudden there was a sudden burst of thunder and lightning and before I knew it I had flew off the swing and made a dash down the steps to the bus.

  1. We had a great time in Boone! It was so scary when we went to the playground but I am glad that I had someone with me so I didn't be the one embarrassed
